'Urochishche Selbst'
solo show by Dasha Kuznetsova

14 October – 1 November 2021

ISSMAG and the Richter hotel are happy to present a two-part project.
On the 9th of October, the first exhibition 'Eyewitness of a windstorm' took place in the secret room of the Richter hotel where paintings and objects by Dasha Kuznetsova and Dmitry Khvorostov were presented. The second exhibition took place at the ISSMAG gallery and resulted in a solo show 'Urochishche Selbst' by Dasha Kuznetsova.

Finding ourselves at the ancient boulders, which once disintegrated and formed a bizarre composition, we pay attention to the information stand in front of them. It contains a text telling a legend from which we learn that the boulders lying in front of us are a kind of a document. The boulders have names and heroic destiny. Once they were people, they loved, suffered and fought for their life, honor and truth. The stones have a soul, they are able to move independently, and their current placement had been chosen by their own will, described in the legend.
Geological changes leading to the disintegration of rocks and the formation of boulders — the collective unconscious of the stones — together with active will or entelechy shape stone's Self — key archetype of the subject. The archetype, being always split, is rooted on one side in a wide pre-given cultural context —let's call it The Ruin, but on the other side it always transforms by the will of a soul.
Урочище (translated from Russian as 'tract') Selbst is the very place where the birth of the soul takes place, the emergence of the subject in his mythological and spiritual dimensions.
